Brunelcare joins Bristol City Council's Welcoming Spaces scheme

As part of the new Bristol City Council Welcoming Spaces initiative, our Extra Care Housing Sites have opened their doors to become a Welcoming Space for members of the local community.

Bristol City Council launched the Welcoming Spaces scheme in autumn 2022 to provide a warm welcome and a relaxing environment to anyone facing difficulties with the cost of living increase.

The spaces, open throughout autumn and winter 2022/2023, also provide an opportunity to engage in various low-cost activities such as community meals and film nights, as well as access to support for money, welfare and mental wellbeing.

We are pleased to be able to open our three Extra Care housing sites to the local community as part of the scheme: ABC Centre, located in Hengrove, Colliers Gardens, located in Fishponds, and Waverley Gardens, located in Bishopsworth.

We have a warm welcome policy, where locals from the surrounding area are welcome to visit our sites for a warm space, and enjoy hot drinks and food for a minimal fee.

Members of the community are also welcome to join our site activities, including coffee mornings, pub games, exercise and watercolour art!

Julie Walker, Colliers Gardens Centre Manager, said: “Our Extra Care Housing sites are warm, welcoming, relaxing environments that give local residents the opportunity to engage in various activities, from singing afternoons and exercise classes to crafts and music. Now, the community is more important than ever as many of us face difficulties with the cost of living increase.”
