Brunelcare was delighted to host a visit by the Minister of State for Care, Stephen Kinnock, at our Waverley Gardens Extra Care Housing scheme this week.
During a trip to Bristol, Mr Kinnock popped into Waverley Gardens, along with Helen Godwin, who is running as Labour’s candidate in the West of England mayoral election. The Minister was given a tour of the facilities at Waverley Gardens, and met with staff and residents who live and work at the site.
Mr Kinnock also met with senior Brunelcare staff and the charity’s Chair of Trustees, Graham Russell, to discuss the government’s priorities in health and social care and some of the significant pressures being felt by the care sector.
Sandra Payne, Brunelcare’s Director of Nursing and Care Services, said: “It was lovely to meet the Minister for Care, and to highlight the range of care, housing and support services that Brunelcare provides across our region, which we are so passionate about.
“We also discussed the challenges facing social care providers like Brunelcare with the Minister, and how we can continue to support the government’s 10-year plan to improve health and care services.”
Laura Hartry, Centre Manager at Waverley Gardens, said: “We were very honoured at Waverley Gardens to welcome the Minister of care Stephen Kinnock and Cllr Helen Godwin. They were very interested in extra care housing and the good work that Waverley has done.
We shared examples of people’s lives being changed through supported living and how proud we are to allow people to thrive in an independent setting. The visit was a success and the feedback was very positive.”
