Little Heath Care Home has marked Valentine’s Day by welcoming a special guest to officially open its new pub!
West of England Metro Mayor and North East and Somerset and Hanham MP, Dan Norris, visited the home in Cadbury Heath to meet with residents and staff. Whilst he was at Little Heath, Mr Norris also cut the ribbon on the home’s new pub, The Little Heath Arms.
The pub is the brainchild of staff members Jess Ward and Jess Segesdy, who wanted to repurpose a lounge space in the home into a ‘pub’ area where residents and colleagues can relax, unwind and socialise.
The pub’s bar was built by Little Heath Care Home’s handyperson Gary Dady from recycled pallets and fencing, and is fully stocked with a range of zero percent non-alcoholic beers and wines. The care home has also received a number of generous donations from the local community to help kit out the pub, including a flatscreen TV which residents can use to enjoy watching sports games and big events.
Krishna Mullekatu, Registered Manager at Little Heath Care Home, said: “This is our residents home first and foremost, and my team are always looking for new ways to provide the most stimulating and social environment. They took it upon themselves to create our new pub for the residents, and it was a pleasure to have our local MP here to see the work that has gone into it and officially open The Little Heath Arms!”
Jess Ward, Business Manager at Little Heath, said: “It’s been a real team effort to create the Little Heath Arms and I’m so pleased that it’s been so well received by our residents. We want to say a big thank you to all of the friends, relatives and members of our local community who’ve pitched in with support and donations to help make it happen!”
Dan Norris MP, said: “It was fantastic to help launch what might be the newest pub in North East Somerset & Hanham – the Little Heath Arms! I enjoyed chatting with some of the residents who will use the pub and the staff who made it happen.”
